Meet the Newest Fly Girl!

Happy 2011 to all! We're really looking forward to another fabulous year, and we're pleased to kick off the new year with a new addition to our team! For those of you who may have been viewing our product photos on Facebook and wondered 'Who's that girl rockin' the velvet jumper with sparkly tights?' - meet Erin! With her love of both fashion and Italian culture, Erin seems like a great fit for our boutique in the heart of Little Italy. So, without further ado, here she is, in her own words:

Ciao!

Hello, hello, everyone! My name is Erin and I am SO EXCITED to introduce myself as the newest member of The Velvet Fly team! I wanted to officially say hello and “scribble” a few lines about myself for all who are curious and interested!

I graduated from Boston University this past May with a degree in communications/public relations and a concentration in Italian. I then spent the summer abroad in Italy pursuing one of my biggest passions: the Italian language/culture (hence my use of Ciao… I’m seriously obsessed with all things Italian). Upon my return to the states, I moved back to my favorite U.S. city- Boston - and picked up a plethora of jobs. The majority of my jobs are retail-related, because I’m also clothing obsessed; thus the need for SEVERAL of them. I nearly cried the first time I walked into The Velvet Fly and saw that they carried Lia Molly :)

Anyways, enough about me! I’d really just love to meet all of you, as we share a common love: The Velvet Fly! I’ll be at the store mostly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, so, please stop by to say hello and check out our ever-changing and always fabulous merchandise!

Seasons Greetings! As you Fly girls prepare for the height of the holiday season, we'd like to share some new items we love, and think you will, too. So, forget about any stress, embrace the spirit of the season, and check these pieces out.

Today's latest arrivals from Tulle will help you look effortlessly chic and feel ready to celebrate...

Put the finishing touch on almost any holiday look with one of these stylish jackets. This wine-colored bomber and black brocade military coat can be paired with dozens of ensembles, varying from casual to formal. Picture the bomber with some hot jeans or over a cocktail dress to give you an edge. Envision the military coat with sleek trousers or with a classic evening look.

Of course, in addition to a great jacket, who doesn't need soft & warm scarves and gloves?! Today's delivery contained classic chunky scarves (shown below in pink; available in-store in black and ivory), long cable-knit gloves (available in-store in grey, black, and ivory), and short fingerless gloves (available in-store in black).

Speaking of sparkly jewels... we've recently received a bunch of really fun pieces by Bohm and Warren Sophia. Both are always known for dazzling holiday earrings and necklaces - perfect for you or for gifts! Also, French newcomer LouLou Bijoux is now in-store, specifically the BRIN D'AMOUR Collection, which translates to "Piece of Love." Well, J'adore! Getting Into the Holiday Spirit

The holiday season is in full swing here at the Fly. We had a great kick-off with this year's Buon Natale Holiday Stroll. Many thanks to all who participated and stopped by to see us; it was great to see so many happy faces! Here are a few shots of FLY girls enjoying the evening (and sporting some of our fave pieces: shorts by Hazel, Buddha tee by newcomer Coin, and coat by Papillon Eastern)...

This year the holiday cheer is continuing with 8 Crazy Days of Savings, in honor of Hanukkah, which began just before the stroll. We will be featuring a different deal for each day of Hanukkah, so be sure to keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter to find out the daily savings special!

A Grand-Slam Double-Header!

Last night's event was a great success! The Latico Sample Sale - Olaria Studio Trunk Show double-feature drew in a lively crown and we were thrilled to see so many FLY girls in attendance. The fabulous selections from both of our featured brands, coupled with other new store arrivals, were hard to resist. As were the "dangerously delicious" treats from our friends at Mercato del Mare - HUGE thanks to Liz & Keri! And, no Fly event would be complete without libations courtesy of our friends at The Wine Bottega! Overall, a fun night of pre-holiday shopping :)

Check out Maren, totally rocking her new Tulle coat and Latico bag (and awesome maroon hat), as well as this vintage navy dress and black belt (which fit her like a glove, and she could not leave the store without):

And she wasn't the only one who found a dress that seemed like it was made her. Meara snagged this great dress with zipper belt by Aryn K:

In closing, here's a peak at the pieces we hung on to from Olaria Studio... a few new colors and designs, including a couple treated with a new glaze that creates crystals (very cool effect!):
